A debris-filled parking lot – transformed into the new Veterans Memorial Park.
VOA Michigan will use the $25,000 grant from Home Depot to continue their work with the brand new Veteran’s Memorial Park they created out of an empty overgrown parking lot in Detroit. Last year Volunteers of America Michigan and over 200 volunteers from Team Depot came together to transform a Detroit parking lot into Veterans Memorial Part. They cleared 20 years of weeds and debris, cleared out all the trash and installed a full park complete with paved walkways, planter benches, bushes, tree, flowers, a barbeque pit and flag poles to display the banners of every branch of the military.
The $25,000 will help us continue the transformation, plus provide therapy and fresh food for area veterans
Team Depot and Volunteers of America Michigan are ready to put the $25,000 in Home Depot gift cards to use by creating a community garden next to the Veterans Memorial Park for veterans and neighbors to enjoy. The community garden will provide therapy as well as fresh food for the veterans in the area.
