VOA Receives $5000 Finalist Grant from Home Depot

Volunteers of America Michigan's Veteran's programs include creating Veterans Memorial Park out of a vacant lot with the help of 200 Team Depot volunteers

Thank you for all your votes and efforts for Volunteers of America Michigan for The Home Depot Foundation’s Aprons In Action program!

Volunteers of America Michigan will receive $5,000 for being a finalist in the competition, and plans to continue work with our homeless veterans! Thanks to all of you who have placed your vote for us all month long! We appreciate your support very much!!!

“Being selected for the Aprons in Action Program was such an honor, and we are so thankful for the recognition,” said Alex Brodrick, President and CEO of Volunteers of America Michigan.

Working together, Volunteers of America Michigan and Team Depot volunteers have already installed a Veterans Memorial Park across the street from the Volunteers of America Michigan Veterans Housing Program in Detroit.  This park sits adjacent to two vacant lots and those lots have the potential for becoming useful and therapeutic green spaces for the 60 veterans that are served in the program.

Across the country, The Home Depot Associates give back to their communities by volunteering their time and talents with local nonprofit organizations, like Volunteers of America Michigan. The Aprons in Action Program recognizes these successful partnerships and gives each of the featured nonprofits the opportunity to do additional work with Team Depot volunteers to better their communities.
