When you donate your car to charity, veterans struggling with homelessness get the help they need. Volunteers of America Chesapeake
It’s hard to believe, but on any given night over 67,000 veterans are homeless somewhere in the United States. Every year 134,000 vets find themselves living on the streets. Right now in the USA there are more Vietnam veterans living on the streets than soldiers who died during the Vietnam War. More and more Iraq and Afghanistan veterans are also struggling with homelessness.
Volunteers of America is fighting for veterans right here in Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC. When you donate your car to charity, veterans receive crucial services.
Since the end of World War 1 Volunteers of America has been helping our nation’s veterans. When you donate an unused vehicle to charity, veterans receive vitally important services.
Our veterans services start with solving the immediate need of homelessness - a safe place to live. Having a safe place to live is the most important step in providing at-risk veterans with effective, consistent access to care. Volunteers of America Chesapeake is dedicated to ending and preventing homelessness in veterans by offering a wide variety of services. Every night, VOA Chesapeake provides veterans with emergency shelter. This is crucial, and opens the door to other vital treatment. When homeless vets are prepared we provide them with transitional housing, and many times we help them find a permanent place to live.
Donate a used vehicle to charity & veterans in Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC have new doors opened up for them.
The programs and services of Volunteers of America Chesapeake help homeless veterans conquer the immense challenges that can loom over them. Our emergency housing can provide case management services for veterans and their families. We offer clinical services where veterans can receive treatment for addiction, as well as PTSD and traumatic brain injuries. We see that veterans get the benefits they are entitled to. We also use strong veteran-to-veteran bonds in mentoring and peer-to-peer support.
VOA Chesapeake employment services help homeless vets gain the skills to build new lives.
Volunteers of America Chesapeake provides employment services for vets that can include assessment, training and placement. We help vets in DC, MD and VA with everything from creating a resume to job interviewing. We help them find transportation and appropriate clothing. Whenever possible we enroll homeless veterans in compensated work programs that offer a stipend for veterans while they are training for new jobs. For homeless veterans finding productive employment is a crucial part of building new confidence, pride and lasting independence.
