Your car donations for veterans help Volunteers of America Michigan provide vital services for homeless vets.
It is a national embarrassment – on any given night over 67,000 veterans are homeless, and every year twice as many veterans struggle with homelessness. Today there are more homeless Vietnam veterans than soldiers who died during that war. Now Iraq and Afghanistan veterans are beginning to appear among our nation’s homeless.
Volunteers of America is fighting to change that right here in Michigan, and your car donations for veterans help us provide crucial services for Michigan veterans struggling with homelessness and despair.
For nearly a hundred years Volunteers of America Michigan has been helping our honored veterans. Your car donations for veterans help us provide vitally important services.
Our veterans services begin with providing homeless veterans with a safe place to live – because we know that having a safe place to live is the first step to making sure at-risk veterans get effective, consistent access to care. Volunteers of America Michigan is committed to ending and preventing homelessness for veterans by providing a broad selection of services specifically created to veterans unique needs. Every night, VOA Michigan provides veterans with emergency shelter. This opens the door to other treatment, and when homeless vets are ready we provide them with transitional housing, and often a permanent place to live.
Your car donations to veterans open up new doors for Michigan vets.
The programs and services of Volunteers of America Michigan help homeless veterans conquer the challenges that stand between them and a productive life. Our housing units provide Veterans in Progress case management services for veterans and families. The VOA Veterans Housing Program includes housing and complete clinical services where veterans can receive treatment for PTSD, traumatic brain injuries and addictions. We work hard to make sure veterans get the benefits they are entitled to, and we also take advantage of strong veteran-to-veteran bonds with mentoring and peer-to-peer support.
VOA Michigan employment services help homeless vets build new lives.
Volunteers of America Michigan provides employment services for vets that include assessment, training and placement. We help vets with everything from resume prep to job interviewing, finding appropriate clothing and even transportation. Whenever possible we enroll homeless veterans in compensated work programs that offer financial support for veterans while they are training for a new career. For homeless veterans finding work is a crucial part of building new confidence, pride and lasting independence.
